When most people think of bed bugs, they think of them as a problem that affects people that are either not the best at keeping up with personal hygiene, bad housekeeping or living in a filthy environment. This cannot be further from the truth. Bed Bugs have no social status, they are not picky on whom they feed on. They would feed on Donald Trump as easily as they would someone that lives on the street in poverty. While it is true that people with poor hygiene or keeping a dirty home might be more at risk than someone living in a mansion in Beverly Hills. It makes no difference to our little hitch hiking pest. If you travel in airplanes, stay at hotels, have friends over, go to work at the office, eat out, go to a movie theater, you are at risk.
A perfect example of this would be an article recently written about Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers. While staying at a popular hotel franchise, the historic 4 star Skirvin Hilton Hotel in Oklahoma, City, Kyrie was getting tucked in the night before the big game with Oklahoma, City Thunder. He was laying in bed trying to get some rest for the game the next day.
Shortly after drifting off, he felt something biting him. It started getting so intense that he had to get out of bed and sleep on the sofa. The next day, the bites were so bad, he only played in the game against Oklahoma for about 20 minutes (Cavalier’s won by the way.) Go Cavs! Checking for Bed Bugs While you do need a pest control professional in order to evaluate the presence of bed bugs 100%, we do have a video that shows you steps you should take while traveling and staying in hotels on how to detect bed bugs in your hotel room.
The bottom line is. Don’t assume because you stay in a 4 star hotel, have a few million in the bank, or fly 1st class on any popular airline or even sit and watch a movie at your local theater in the V.I.P section that you are safe from bed bugs. Even if you are the cleanest person on the planet, all it takes is contact with a person or in an area where these pesky little critters have been in order for one or two to latch on and catch a ride back to your place. Once they do, the painstaking task of elimination begins.
